What Is Lexan? The Premium Polycarbonate Sheet
Lexan is SABIC's brand name for polycarbonate resin — the performance thermoplastic that has become the industry standard for glazing, safety, and structural applications across North America. Developed originally by GE Plastics, Lexan combines glass-like clarity with extraordinary toughness in a material that is both lightweight and thermally stable.
At Plastics Canada, our Lexan sheets include a UV co-extrusion coating that blocks UV-B radiation to help prevent yellowing and surface degradation. This makes them well-suited for Canadian outdoor conditions, from the extremes of an Alberta winter to the intense summer sun of southern Ontario.
250 times stronger than glass and 30 times stronger than acrylic, Lexan does not shatter under impact — it dents and flexes. This makes it the preferred choice for safety applications including machine guards, sneeze guards, patio covers, skylights, and greenhouse glazing. Contractors, manufacturers, and DIYers across Canada trust Lexan sheets for projects where both aesthetics and performance are non-negotiable.
Our Lexan sheets are available in Clear (up to 88% light transmission), Smoky (tinted for privacy and glare reduction), and Bronze (warm UV filtering) — in 3mm, 4.5mm, and 6mm thicknesses.
